There are not many chances to see Monument Valley and its iconic sandstone formations from above. Hunts Mesa is one of them, not easy to find and not easily accessible, but probably the most breathtaking views you have ever seen. This trip is a real adventure.
Monument Valley is Navajo land. Access to the mesa is off road and only possible via a Navajo guided tour, but they also offer an overnight stay in a tent under the stars if you are adventurous. A perfect spot for astronomy photography, as the sky's are very clear and dark. Expect to pay quite a lot for the tour, also the process of getting official permission for professional photography can be a bit tricky, but it's doable. Permission is only needed if you plan on selling your shots.
The area is vast and offers a remote view onto Merrick Butte and The Mittens. You will definitely need to bring a long zoom lens as well as a wide angle lens to capture all possible angles.
